Choosing Your Officiant
To have an excellent wedding ceremony, it takes an official who is both professional and flexible. Just coming out to satisfy the legal requirement and doing a run of the mill ceremony is not what Dr. Janine is about. Although ceremonies are not necessarily long in physical time, they should be very powerful and set the foundation for your marriage together.
Your wedding officiant sets the tone for the whole wedding and they can make or break your ceremony. Dr. Janine will make sue your wishes are carried out rather than you being expected to “do as you are told.”
“Dr. Janine Burns was wonderful. She was patient and understanding. We felt absolutely comfortable with her. The ceremony was beautiful and her guidance through it was needed and appreciated. Listening to her advice paid off because we had an amazing and most memorable night. Highly recommend her.- Sal Valenti
Types of Ceremonies
Your Wedding Kit includes a complete outline of your marriage ceremony. You then customize the ceremony by choosing (or writing) your vows, exchange of rings, spiritual reflections on marriage. Further choices include: The Rose Ceremony, Time Capsule, Sand Ceremony, Hands Passage, Wine Ceremony, Unity Candle, Breaking of The Glass, and participation of your children or family in the ceremony.
Your “Marriage License”
Before the ceremony, Dr. Burns must review your “Affidavit, License and Certificate of Marriage”. You may obtain it from any Town Clerk anywhere within New York State (hours vary in each Township). Upon issuance, it becomes valid twenty-four hours later for a period of 60 days. The couple goes to Town Hall each bringing their photo identification; birth certificate with raised seal, and the fee of $40.00. (If you have been married before, proof of dissolution of Marriage is required.) Blood tests are no longer required. It is the responsibility of Dr. Burns to return your legal document to the Town Clerk, in the envelope provided, within five days of your ceremony. The Town Clerk returns your certified License to you within eight weeks It usually takes only 2 – 3 weeks).
In order to promote a stress free wedding, Dr. Burns writes out your Processional and makes a Diagram for Standing and submits it to your Maitre d. Should you desire Janine to conduct your rehearsal, permission for her to do so must be given by the caterer. Many catering halls don’t allow the Officiant to conduct the rehearsal, since it is technically their responsibility to do so.
Those desiring a rehearsal prior to the day of the ceremony, must make arrangements in advance.
“Janine was an amazing officiant!! She was interested, intelligent, responsive and helpful in assisting us design our custom wedding ceremony. My husband and I come from different cultural backgrounds and Dr. Burns was extremely knowledgeable about various aspects to make our ceremony unique, informative, and a great expression of our marriage. Friends and family complimented her to us immediately after the ceremony saying that she was the most articulate officiant they’d ever seen. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who truly loves and cares about what she does!”- Machada McGovern
